Popular in Scandinavian countries and in pockets of the United States, skijoring is a sport that combines Nordic skiing and dog sledding. Louisa Morrissey, Seth Sachson and Dawn Shepard will lead our introduction to skijoring, covering basic equipment, techniques to encourage your dog to pull, and safety and responsibility out on the trail. Louisa is a licensed trainer for Victoria Stillwell. Through her business Skijor-N-Mor, she has been teaching skijoring for six years. Seth is the Director of the Aspen Animal Shelter and spends his free time dog-sledding with shelter dogs. Dawn is a local personal trainer and skijor enthusiast. Skijoring Equipment (harnesses and bungee lines) will be available for use at the clinic and will be available for sale at the Aspen Animal Shelter pet store, Aspen Wags to Riches. Please provide (or rent) your own skis, boots and poles. Nordic skiing experience is a plus, but if you are a beginner, come anyway and we'll get you started!
